As Q3 conferences draw to a close, the TSG Advisors team is already gearing up for 2025. Public Safety is evolving to meet the demands of a rapidly changing world. With advancements in technology, shifting social dynamics, and the increasing importance of community engagement, these five key focus areas are emerging as critical to ensuring safer, more resilient communities. From network resiliency to ensuring interoperability between software, these priorities will shape the future of public safety and help protect the well-being of all citizens. Discover the team’s top five focus areas for public safety in 2025.

  1. Cybersecurity, network resiliency and redundancy

In light of this year’s CrowdStrike outage, the importance of robust cybersecurity and network redundancy has never been clearer. Achieving “five nines” reliability, meaning 99.999% uptime, is a significant topic of discussion—both in formal conference sessions and informal gatherings on the exhibit floor. A crucial question remains: How can we guarantee the uninterrupted availability of emergency systems to everyone in the public safety sector, regardless of circumstances?

  1. Indoor Mapping –

Indoor mapping of schools and government buildings is a national priority for public safety officials. Unfortunately, as so often happens, we focus on the initial capture of the data, and we forget to plan for a future state when that building, floor plan, or room number changes. It is vital that call centers and first responders have access to the latest data to minimize confusion and speed up response times. Phase two of this initiative will focus on maintaining and operationalizing this critical data for first responders.

  1. AI –

AI’s role in public safety continues to be a topic of debate. There has always been mixed feedback regarding AI in the public safety industry especially when it comes to supplementing resources. While many agree that nothing can replace the human touch in emergency communications, there’s growing acceptance of AI’s potential to enhance the capabilities of telecommunicators, dispatchers, and first responders. Recent developments in language translation and tone detection highlight the expanding influence of AI in the field.

  1. Over The Top vs One Stop Shop –

The Public Safety industry push to have all call and supplemental data integrated and accessible within the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) is no longer an option – it’s a requirement. Panic buttons, indoor mapping, vehicle telematics, cameras, etc. can all be accessed by a telecommunicator, but the demand to have it in the same window of the call data has become nonnegotiable in the industry.

  1. Interoperability –

The key question for technology at public safety exhibitions is simple: Can this tech integrate seamlessly with adjacent technologies? The display of technology in the exhibit hall is always impressive, with a technological solution for almost any situation, but do these solutions integrate well into existing technology? Or each other? Interoperability across the industry, but especially across the response process is something that must be a priority. Wouldn’t it be interesting if we established the exhibit hall layout by how well a solution integrates with the solution in the booth next to it? We wonder how large it would grow before there is a gap.
