TSG Advisors – Education’s Senior Advisor for Workforce Education, Dan McGrew, hosted a webinar on critical changes and updates to Florida’s Master Credentials List (MCL). Below are our top three takeaways:

1. Impact on Workforce Education Funding:
The Master Credentials List (MCL) now serves as the guiding framework for directing federal and state funds towards workforce education and training programs. Schools must align their career and technical education (CTE) programs with approved credentials to secure funding.
2. Stringent Evaluation Criteria for Credentials:
The MCL inclusion process follows a strict evaluation framework, requiring credentials to link to Standard Occupation Classification (SOC) codes, meet labor market demand, and satisfy wage thresholds (for non-degree credentials). This ensures that credentials offered lead to valuable employment opportunities.
3. Credential Sequencing & CAPE Funding Implications:
Credentials that fail to meet wage criteria may still qualify if they are part of a recognized sequence leading to a higher-wage occupation. Additionally, changes in CAPE funding eligibility could impact which industry certifications qualify for funding, requiring schools to stay updated on these modifications to maintain financial support.
